Stars Of Hope’s Disaster Response programs provide immediate support and aid to communities affected by natural and human-made calamities. From floods, earthquakes, and landslides to pandemics like COVID-19, the initiative ensures that vulnerable populations receive timely medical care, food, and essential supplies when they need it most.
The programs combine on-ground relief operations, community mobilization, and coordination with local authorities to ensure efficient delivery of aid. Key activities include emergency relief distribution, setting up temporary health camps and first aid support, educating communities on disaster preparedness and recovery strategies, and collaborating with local stakeholders for effective relief delivery. Through these initiatives, Stars Of Hope not only addresses immediate needs but also builds resilient communities capable of facing future challenges, fostering hope, recovery, and long-term self-sufficiency even in the most difficult times.
COVID-19 Relief and Support
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Stars Of Hope played a vital role in supporting communities, healthcare workers, and vulnerable populations across Sikkim. The organization worked closely with the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, to monitor COVID-19 positive patients in home isolation, providing daily follow-up calls, health guidance, and emergency assistance. Recognizing the scale of the crisis, Stars Of Hope also supported individuals stranded outside the state, helped chronic disease patients access treatment, and provided financial assistance to families struggling during lockdowns. In many tragic cases where loved ones passed away and families could not reach them due to restrictions, Stars Of Hope helped facilitate final rites with dignity. The organization extended mental health and counseling support to families and individuals experiencing stress, grief, or anxiety during the pandemic. Whenever calls for support were received—be it for food, medical help, ration, or other urgent needs—Stars Of Hope, with the assistance of its volunteers and generous donors, responded promptly.
Through awareness programs, online training sessions, and webinars, Stars Of Hope educated communities on preventive measures, treatment options, vaccination, and safe practices. Despite restrictions on gatherings, the organization ensured that knowledge, support, and care reached those in need, reflecting its unwavering commitment to resilience, solidarity, and community well-being during unprecedented times.
In an extraordinary gesture of commitment to medical research and public welfare, the Chairman of Stars Of Hope, Mr. Bikash Thapa, came forward to pledge his body for COVID-19 research. He also voluntarily worked with the Health & Family Welfare Department for almost 10 months.
Recognizing the effort and commitment of Stars Of Hope during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, felicitated Stars Of Hope in a special event held on 14th April 2021 at the Auditorium Hall of STNM Multispeciality Hospital, Gangtok.
Sikkim Flood Relief Efforts 2023
From the very day the 2023 Sikkim floods struck, Stars Of Hope sprang into action to provide immediate relief to affected communities. The organization distributed essential food and rations, clothes, medical aids, health and hygiene products, tarpaulins, gas cylinders, and mattresses to families in need. Relief support was also extended to camps housing displaced people, ensuring that basic necessities reached everyone, even in the most remote and inaccessible corners where all connectivity had been cut off, with the crucial assistance of Army helicopters.
These efforts were made possible thanks to the generous contributions of individual donors, CSR companies, and organizations from across the country who supported Stars Of Hope in this crisis. Beyond immediate relief, the organization continued its commitment through the Sikkim Flood Fundraiser, providing support for students’ education, ongoing medical care for chronic patients, and assistance for rehabilitation.
Stars Of Hope raised donations with official permission from the District Administrative Centre, Gangtok, granted by the District-Magistrate cum District-Collector. For full transparency and accountability, copies of vouchers, bills, and supportive documents were provided to the DAC Gangtok.
Recognizing the extraordinary effort during the flood, the Federations of Consumer Associations of Sikkim (FCAS) felicitated Stars Of Hope during National Consumer Day 2023 for its significant contributions.
